We were delighted to catch up with Senior Commissioning Editor of Piatkus Books, Donna Condon this afternoon and we gave her some quickfire questions to answer:
1/Please give us a brief biog.
Donna Condon is Senior Commissioning Editor on the Piatkus list at Little, Brown. Originally from Ireland, where she read English and Philosophy at University College Cork, she moved to London in 2004 and studied an MA in publishing at City University. Her first role in publishing was as editorial assistant with Virgin Books, and she’s been with Piatkus since 2007.
2/what are you working on now?
A whole range of genre fiction, including historical and paranormal romance, erotica, and some more quirky cross-genre standalone titles.
3/Which book would you have liked to have published?
The World According to Garp by John Irving
4/What do you look for in an author?
Ability to write, ability to entertain, ability to take constructive criticism on board.
5/What top tip would you give to an unpublished author?
Keep honing your writing, but also have self-belief and remember that of all the various pieces of advice you hear from people – often conflicting – you’re the person who must choose what’s relevant to you
6/Which three authors would you invite round for tea and cakes?
Stephen King, John Irving and Diana Athill.
