Write like an athlete

With Olympic fever in the air, it’s a good chance to learn a thing or two from the athletes. They train for years to perfect their art, and have impressive levels of focus. Writing is often about reaching a goal too.

Try these tips:
1. Plan long term. Where do you want to be by this time next year with your writing? With that in mind, what needs to be done by December? By September? Next week?
2. Keeping fit as a writer is about keeping inspired – in what you are writing about and with fuel for ideas. It’s also about feeling good about your writing. Make time for your own writing especially if you write or edit for other people.
3. Coaches help athletes keep going, and motivate them. What could a coach help you improve? Ask for advice when you need it.
