LWC will shortly be packing up for the Christmas break so we wanted to wish our followers Happy Christmas and all the best writerly cheer for 2013. Next year, we have some great events coming up – including speakers from literary agencies, The Agency, Andrew Lownie Agency and the Rupert Heath Literary Agency. We will also be running The Write Start to 2013 – where we give exercises and tips to writers via email during the dark month of January, from agents, published authors and publishers. A brilliant way to kickstart your writing in 2013.
January’s event – on Tuesday, 22nd January – is with the literary agent, Juliet Mushens, of The Agency so we look forward to seeing many of you then.
Featured short story:
We will be featuring each shortlisted short story from the LWC/Hush competition over the coming weeks in our ezines. Today’s is: Bite in the Air by Sarah E.Moore
I guess you could say I started to straighten my life out same time as I finally got my teeth fixed. It was end of the summer, 1955, and ‘though the evenings were just startin’ to cool off the days were still hot enough to melt the ice in the water pitcher like butter in a pan. Daddy’s old Cadillac was at the garage again so Mama and me had to take the bus downtown, all the windows jammed back as far as they would go and still the air sat on us thick and heavy like we were tucked under a winter quilt. Mama fanned herself with the bus schedule for downtown Montgomery the whole way to the stop on Hickory Road, just round the corner from the dental surgery.

Sarah has practised as a lawyer for many years and now lives in North Norfolk with her husband and three children where she intends to write. “Bite in the Air” is her first short story. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
