November speaker announced, Marina de Pass of The Soho Agency

Marina loves upmarket commercial and accessible literary fiction in all its forms – from twisty crime and thrillers to smart rom-coms and big, sweeping love stories to historical fiction – and is actively looking to take on clients in this area.

She would love to find a contemporary UK crime detective series that comes at the genre a little differently. She would also love to read more thrillers with claustrophobic settings, like the one in Lucy Foley’s The Guest List, as well as more female-lead historical fiction with a feminist angle, especially novels with a mythical or magical edge, like Natalie Haynes’ A Thousand Ships and Stacey Halls’ The Familiars.

Books she has loved recently include Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri, The Other Passenger by Louise Candlish, In Five Years by Rebecca Serle, Just Like You by Nick Hornby and everything by Jojo Moyes.

Marina joined The Soho Agency in 2016, after working for several years in the editorial departments of Little, Brown and HarperCollins. She has a rare insight into the publishing industry – in addition to her agenting work, she is also a published author, and has studied creative writing at the Faber Academy.

Marina is a trained copyeditor and proofreader – and takes spelling and grammar far too seriously. She also oversees the agency’s social media, as well as working with authors on building their channels.
