Our events are always full and the writers who attend are at every stage in their writing career – from literary having the idea/concept for a book in their head, to having an agent and being a published writer. We welcome everyone and believe that our events (and our membership) appeals to all writers.
One writer, Kathryn Hayden Cusimano, who came to our October event wrote the following post for us:
Earlier this week, the London Writers’ Club had the pleasure of meeting Madeleine Buston from the Darley Anderson Literary, TV & Film Agency. Madeleine’s talk was fascinating and truly inspiring. Much to our delight, Madeleine insisted that she loves the “slush pile,” and that she’s found most of her authors there. She emphasized the importance of a strong voice and relatable, well-developed characters in the books she takes on. Madeleine also said she loves cover letters that are unique, and that some of the best ones can summarize their books in just one gripping sentence. Unlike many of the other writers in the club, I have not yet pitched anything to an agent, and I still don’t have a manuscript that is ready to go. But after Madeleine’s talk, I promised her (and myself!) that I’d have something ready to submit in the very near future, and when it is done, I know what I have to do to make my submission stand out.
