And now for something a little bit different, The People Publish

Nicola Carley is a writer doing something a little bit different to get her writing out there. She has written the following blog on her project, The People Publish:

My project, The People Publish launched today to allow you to decide if my book Who is Petite Nicole? is worth the paper it’s printed on.  I grew tired of battling with the feudal publishing world so decided to create my own way in by asking readers to publish me by bidding for their own dedicated page in an eBay auction.  The first three chapters can be read online for free.

The aim of this project is to take the decisions about what constitutes ‘art’ out of the hands of the institutions and put it in the hands of the people. I’ve had enough good feedback to convince me that I shouldn’t just accept that pretty much every agent had turned me down and so was born this project.

Each week, a chapter will be listed on eBay, page by page and when you win, an image of your choice will be placed on it, whether that’s a photo of you or your company logo and you’ll receive a signed copy of it along with a copy of the eBook when published. You will also be featured in ‘The Publisher’s Gallery’ on the website giving you or your business exposure (although you can also do this anonymously).

When a full chapter is bought, it will be shown to the public via our website until the final two chapters at which point the full eBook will go on sale (January 2012). The public will be able to follow the story as it’s revealed by the publishers. I will be donating 5% of the proceeds to charity.
