Start Write: time to ponder, and faff about.

I do most of my writing away from the keyboard. That part’s just typing. I need to ponder, to dream, to gestate, to faff about. If that’s your style too, don’t feel guilty.

Leonardo da Vinci got into trouble because he spent more time not painting the Last Supper than he did putting brush to plaster. But you have to be brutally honest, and know whether you are silently developing or just skiving. I can generally tell because when I’m skiving I feel guilty, and when I’m developing I feel ridiculously excited.
